Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 - Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a quiet town that is located on the West Island, which is part of Montreal's Island. People unfamiliar with the term tend to think it's a distinct island that lies west of Montreal although in actual fact, this part of West Island is home to all things from the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time there was short. Brugel had a childhood in Courtice close to Oshawa, Ontario. She wanted to become a professional dancer but due to her rapid increase in her height, she surpassed all of her dance partner. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as at 6'1 inches tall. As soon as I was able to outgrow male friends, I quit. Former dancers often turn into acting and Brugel was not an exception. An instructor in drama at her high school encouraged Bruce in the direction she needed. Her teacher advised her to participate in the school's production. The student tried it out, and ended up playing the lead in Anne of Green Gables. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with the Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts in the year 2000. Since then, Brugel's participated in 60+ productions both with big screen and smaller ones. She received the greatest fame when she was offered the character of Rita of the acclaim-winning television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel, the only Canadian on the season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast as well as appearing only on occasion, was the only Canadian.
